4th Blog Post! Base Icon Set Down!

So after multiple weeks of Icon development, I officially have all of the Base Android Applications re-designed and colorized to match my color palate presented at the start of this semester.

Something I thought was interesting was that even Google violates their color palate on some Icons or is at the very least, inconsistent between versions.

Since I have been using Android for over a decade now, I am used to Google switching the look of Icons around from year to year. For reference, here’s Android 5.0’s Icons , nicknamed Lollipop compared to the current Icons Google is sending out —

Lolipop
Android 12.0

As you can see, the more standardized size and shape of Icons is a development that has only just occurred in the past couple of years. Using the Eyedropper tool in Photoshop, on the standard Icons, I recognized differences in Blues, Greys and Reds, almost all getting brighter as time progresses.

In my Design, I did not want every Icon to have its own, unique mask or silhouette. Some people may prefer this, however I am a much bigger fan of the uniform look of the updated Icons. I had to decide what the mask for my Icon’s would be and I ended up with more of an IOS, Rounded square type mask.

To finish off this Blog Post, I want to update on my Deliverables, as I stated I would have 30 Base Android Icons, and 5–10 3rd party Applications. I am actually ahead of schedule in terms of what I provided in previous outlines of my project and therefore will most likely be able to produce more 3rd party Icons. If there are any you would like to see please let me know!
